Silk-filled bedding by Lave
LAVE / BEDDING / FIRST RELEASE
Comfort is more than warmth.
Silk-filled bedding. Heat, moisture and feel, clearly explained.
Sleep warm? Look beyond thickness. How a duvet handles heat and water vapour matters alongside its weight and the way it settles around you.
In preparation. Planning price: around £399.
Size and delivered price will be confirmed before ordering opens.
Choose for your conditions.
Heat
The right insulation for your room and sleeping preferences. A warm sleeper may need less filling, even in a cold season.
Moisture
Silk can take up and release water vapour as humidity changes. This moisture response is one reason to consider the fibre for bedding.
Feel
Consider the drape and total weight as well as warmth. We will show the actual insert and state filling and total weights separately.
Why silk for warm sleepers?
Mulberry silk is a moisture-absorbing protein fibre. It can take up water vapour and release it as surrounding conditions change. That makes moisture management part of the material story, alongside insulation.
Research with silk-filled quilts has also found different comfortable room-temperature ranges from down and polyester at the same measured insulation. It is a reason to look beyond warmth ratings alone, rather than assume all fillings feel alike.
A suitable silk-filled duvet is worth exploring if you sleep warm. Choose a filling amount that suits you, and consider the outer fabric and your duvet cover too: the whole bedding system affects how heat and moisture move.
What do we mean by temperature and moisture management?
A duvet affects heat loss and the humid air around your body. Silk's ability to absorb and release water vapour is a fibre property. Airflow, water-vapour transfer and liquid-sweat wicking are different properties; the word “breathable” should not blur them together.
Silk does not actively set your body temperature. A thick silk duvet can still be too warm. We have not yet tested the finished Lave duvet for cooling or moisture performance, so we are not promising a temperature reduction or relief from night sweats.
Start with the filling.
In a silk-filled duvet, silk is the material inside the insert. The outer fabric holds it in place. Your removable duvet cover goes over the insert. These are three separate parts of your bedding.
01 / FILLING
Inside the duvet
The filling provides insulation. Its material, amount and construction affect how the finished duvet feels.
02 / OUTER FABRIC
A separate material
A silk-filled duvet does not necessarily have a silk outer fabric. We will state both compositions separately.
03 / DUVET COVER
Your washable layer
Use a removable cover and wash it regularly. Care for the insert according to its own instructions.
What does silk filling feel like?
If you prefer a duvet that drapes closer to the body, rather than a very lofty feel, silk-filled bedding is worth considering. Choose the finished duvet for your room, your preferred warmth and your care routine.
Warmth depends on the filling amount and construction as well as the fibre. Silk alone does not guarantee a cool night, and a flatter duvet is not necessarily a lighter or cooler one.
What does “mulberry silk” mean?
Mulberry silk comes from silkworms fed on mulberry leaves. The name describes the silk's source; it does not tell you the filling percentage, filling weight, outer fabric or how the duvet is made.
Our first product's composition is being confirmed. We will describe it as mulberry silk only when the supplier documentation supports that description.
When might another filling suit you better?
If you want a very lofty feel, compare down options. If frequent machine washing is essential, choose a duvet explicitly labelled for that care routine. Silk is an animal-derived fibre, so it will not suit someone seeking an animal-free filling.
The right choice depends on the actual product. Compare warmth, total weight, care and price, rather than choosing on the filling name alone.
Does silk filling have the same benefits as silk sheets?
The filling sits inside the duvet, beneath its outer fabric and your cover. Claims about silk pillowcases or sheets touching your skin do not establish the same benefits for a silk-filled insert.
